Excellent point, the cpu is probably getting too hot and shutting down. I think it might be time to buy a can of air, open up the case and blow out all of the dust, starting with the dust in the fan and fins on top of the CPU. While it is open the OP should turn it on and ensure that all of the fans are moving free.
