Problem loading Sony reader library

Genzeni,

The reader library should install directly from your reader when you plug it into your computer. Is the computer recognizing the reader and connecting to it? You need to tell us exactly what you are doing and what is happening on both the reader and your computer when you plug the reader to a USB port. I'm sure that, with enough information, someone here can help you.

To tell you my story, I have stopped using Reader Library and use Calibre instead. However, I still have the Sony software on my notebook (An HP Pavillion) so I can access the Sony book store. What was happening to me is that I would delete a few books from the reader and the Sony Library would try to resync the next time I plugged in the reader, but could never compete the process and just hang up. I started another thread to ask for help and was given a procedure that required deleting all books from the reader and then reloading them from my computer or from the Sony store. That worked, but was too much trouble to go through every time I wanted to clean up my reader.

Calibre doesn't have any syncing problems because the user does it manually. So here is what I do now. I use the Sony software only to buy books and do that with my reader disconnected. I have the reader library set to not automatically open when I connect the reader. After buying a book from any seller, including Sony, and closing Reader Library, I open Calibre and load the book(s) into it. I then connect my reader and transfer the books to it. If I delete a book from Calibre or from the reader, there are no problems whatsoever. The procedure for loading a library book is more involved because of the DRM the library uses. I have to use Adobe Digital Editions to download the library book before loading it into Calibre. If anyone wants more details on the exact procedure, let me know. Or, if anyone knows a way to borrow library books directly from Calibre, please tell me how. If you start a new thread, please email me or leave a pointer here because I rarely visit this forum anymore. I'm currently enjoying reading books on my Sony and really have no issues except the somewhat involved process for borrowing a book.
