The update of firmware beyond the Build 538 has not been released yet. However, I have information direct from Bookeen that the forthcoming firmware update will work on both the slightly-older version of the Gen3 (the one I have) and the newer hardware that new buyers are going to receive. As for what has been changed in the hardware... I cannot say.
