If you like Kathy Reichs' Temperance Brennan novels, then have a look at Patricia Cornwell's Kay Scarpetta books.

The early books in this series were written as first person narratives, which Cornwell changed to third person narrative in (I think) Blow Fly. Personally I feel that and her subsequent Scarpetta books were not up to the same standard as the earlier ones. She switched back to first person for her latest book in the series, but I don't think she's recaptured the magic. Purely my personal opinion, of course.
