t's very sad news about Dennis Ritchie. I had a very dog-eared copy of the white book for more than 25 years; it finally disappeared last year. It was a great introduction to C.

He did leave a marvelous legacy. It's had to see how the net would have become so pervasive a part of our lives without Unix. I'm accessing the forums right now using FreeBSD, a descendent of Unix (42 years and still growing) , thanks to the work of Dennis Ritchie, Ken Thompson and others. Hats off to them.
