Best Buy has the Kindle in stock, bought mine there two days ago. Like you i wanted to get a feel for it before committing, the page turn buttons look so small compared to the K3 that I was concerned they'd be difficult for my sausage fingers to use. It's hard to get a real feel for the weight as they have them mounted to retractable security cables, but the buttons were fine so I picked one up. I think they only have the Special Offers version, but you can pay the extra $30 to Amazon after purchase to "upgrade" if you want to.
On another note, you can add me to the list of people who got a K4 with a screen at least as good as my K3
