I got that email also and I was able to get them. After I 'bought' them, I went to Settings (very top of the page), then to Purchase History (bottom of the page). There should be a Download Now button for the books. The download is an ACSM file, which opens up in ADE. The books are in EPUB format.

Thanks for the tip! If I hadn't seen this I would have passed on these, but I went for it and they downloaded this way just fine.
