I installed the Sony Reader Software (from the US Sony ebook store) on my Mac as well and it works fine with my T1. I would assume that this is the dedicated software for the T1. The Sony Reader Library Software used to ship with the previous models. In any case, you should always only use one software/app to manage your device as there is a chance of corrupting files if two programs/apps try to access the device at the same time.

In the Sony Reader Software you can set the country to the UK as well (In the Setting dialog on the Mac, there must be something similar for Windows).

One you connect the T1 to your PC via the USB cable it will ask you if you want it to go in data transfer mode. Confirm this on the T1 and a few seconds in the Reader software you will see a new tab on the top for your ereader.
