The original illustrations do, but I think that Mobi Creator (which is what I use) recompresses the files to shrink them down to 61k. You get a warning from Mobi Creator if it thinks that the resulting book won't work on Palm devices - that's only happened with (if I recall recorrectly) two of the books I've created.
