There's also the fact that human greed is threatening to make them extinct as a species. It's certain that the poachers don't care though. They'll just find some other equally endangered animal to exploit. Maybe if being caught poaching was an instant death sentence they might think twice. That is get caught poaching a gorilla (or other endangered animal) and face summary execution on the spot. Of course we can't do that but they can wipe out a species that's as old as mankind is with no qualms to their conscience.
