I use a stylus a lot. It works with IR or capacitive touch screens.
And there are people that make touchscreen gloves, e.g.:
http://www.agloves.com/ Seems like someone must make 'sheaths' that you can put on your fingertips, i.e. touchscreen thimbles. There's even a patent for a finger sheath with built-in, retractable stylus:

Fingerprints on Kindle Touch will not be an issue on Kindle Touch for most people, but Fire is another matter.
