As I said above, my first attempt with the new beta brooked mixed results - duplicated books, but all collections showing properly.
The second time I sent a batch of books I did not have the duplication problem (though the original books that were duplicated have remained duplicated). The collections from the previous batch were still there and new books were added to them, but all the new collections are empty.
ETA: Now I'm getting an error:
