You have to be logged into Amazon App store to use any apps on your account. The cookie on the app stores does expire because my husband threw a fit when he went to bed and couldn't play Angry birds one night on his phone due to not being logged in. Me being the sweet wife I am, I had to get out of bed go downstairs find the password and log in on his phone. The next week the same happen to me. I couldn't use Mantano till I got out of bed went to find the password and log in on my phone. So if you are traveling make sure you have that log in info with you!
I turn 3G off sometimes to save battery and can still use Mantano. So it must check for a logged in cookie locally on your phone. Maybe it has to be renewed each day or within a certain time period to validate...I'm not sure.
