I went to Best Buy to pick up a T1. Was set on buying it, despite the poor experience with the new SONY Reader software.
But I played with it for a while in the store.
First, the good:
- it's light
- it's thin
- it looks great and the finishing is not too reflective (I played with the black one).
- it's fast
- the screen is better than the 350/950 I have. Whiter background (slightly) and darker font (significantly).
But, the bad:
- once you put it in a cover with light, the thinness and lightness of it make no difference. Feels the same as my 950 with cover, no big difference.
- no 3g. That bugs me. Ok, I knew about that... but still... Wish the G1 was available in the USA
- stylus is big and there isn't a place to store it. Ok, I knew that too, but didn't expect it to be THAT big.
- THE REAL BAD: insane levels of screen flashing. Headache stuff. I don't know if the model I played with was defective - didn't have another one out there. But the flashing is worse than any SONY ereader I have owned (900, 350 and 950). Very, very noticeable. This is a dealbreaker for me - but I will check another T1 out to see if that is just a bad unit.
- ALSO BAD: the dictionary, bookmarking, etc. now works with HOLDING, not double-tapping. It's somehow slower and it leads to pressing your finger down on the screen, which gets it dirty faster. But, to me, it just feels clunky.
So, now I am thinking. Smaller screen than my 950. No 3g. Stylus. Bummer, but I can live with this.
But the screen flashing? No, no and no. Just too much.
As I said, I will check another device soon. This week is my birthday and I deserve a new reader
