Ideally, you want to use both, actually. It keeps the Sony from spending too much time updating the DB after you unplug from your computer. While it happens in the background, it does slow down the device and eats battery.

The assumes that the Sony behavior involved changes between now and then. Calibre can't exactly fix Sony design choices.
