ahh thank you. liseuse (from some googling) seems to come from the male "liseuer" which meant "reader" and came to be used to describe many things used by the reader. the dust cover, the "bed jacket", the desk, the light eventually.

i was watching an episode of the woodwrights shop on PBS this afternoon and he was creating a wonderful book stand(possibly a liseuse) originally crafted by the great French woodworker Andre Roubo
