Try a smaller thumb drive if available. Make sure the thumb drive doesn't have a bootloader program like JD Secure. Also, the instructions from Entourage say to hold the MENU and ROTATE buttons for 10 seconds and after 1-2 minutes you should see the updating software message. Check out this thread:
