What he did, or better yet, what Apple did (on some products) was make it popular and better. Not because it exists before, was good enough for people to buy or enjoy. Take for example the Walkman. Sony had total control over the market then, but failed to innovate and move it forward. So ... Walkmans just died (please, let's not start arguing about it because I won't turn this post into a Sony vs Apple war, I won't reply anyway)
Yeah, he did it the way he wanted maybe, but you did not, I did not, he had the vision to do it and the arguments to convince others to deploy and produce. It failed in some, it succed on most. The proof of that is the popularity of Apple today and the value of it's market stock price, today.
