Because the ebook industry is not mature enough for most people to be looking for devices they can port their already-owned books to.

For most people, what file types they buy is dependent on what device(s) they own, not vice versa. There's no need for Sony, or anyone else, to court the owners of BN media files, because that's market too small to cater to.
