Unfortunately, it's not straight-forward. In short, Adobe DRM is shared by many different online retailers. And, usually, it will link 'behind the scenes' without you noticing, as long as you sign up to the sites with the same email address.

So, you make an account with SONY, using your email address. That email address is recorded as your Adobe DRM email. You then use the same email address to make an account on Amazon - your Amazon account will be linked to the same Adobe DRM account and, if you purchase and download an epub from Amazon, you will be able to access it on your SONY. No need to install additional third-party software. Another scenario - you want to read your DRM books on another device - say an iPad. You download an app that supports DRM (for example, Bluefire) and make an account with the same email address - it will allow you using your SONY purchases on your iPad.

Or, at least, that's how I understand it - and remember it.

I have been stripping DRM from my books for a while, so not to deal with all the related problems.
