Update: reset device. deleted content on sd card. Updated firmware to 1.9.11 from 1.9.10 and synced device with kobo library without sd card plugged in. Synced 3rd party epubs and was unable to reproduce issue i had before. Trying again with sd card in and library copied over. Will post more later about this.
