My Coby 7024 7" tablet came with an adapter cable that allows me to connect keyboards, mice and thumb drives to the single mini usb port. It runs Android 2.2 (not rooted) and in the settings menu you can select the usb port to be either a device or a host port.
I doubt that the Fire will allow this but Android does. Maybe rooting will do it.
