Hm. /etc/resolv.d is second class to /etc/resolv.conf - where does the latter point to? IIRC (not near any kindle right now) it pointed to some file in tmpfs (so you wouldn't need the "mntroot rw").

But the "route add" should be sufficient to ping hosts by IP. Did you check e.g. with Google's DNS servers (nothing special about them, they're just easy to remember): 8.8.8.8 or 4.2.2.1?

Can you ping the host PC itself or a local router (to make sure the PC acts as a gateway properly)?
