I have never tried it, but MS Reader can be made to work under Wine - for example see Installing Microsoft Reader on Linux. Sohaib Athar does not speak directly to the buying LIT ebooks issue, which I think only requires Internet Explorer (under Wine) after MS Reader has been "authorized" once, see FictionWise's Saving Microsoft Reader Files on your PC:.
