Calibre crashes when I try to connect with Kindle

My Kindle broke and I got a new one. Unfortunately, Calibre crashed when I try to read the device through it.

Basically, what happens is that it tries to get a list of the titles from the device, which goes well, but before it gets to 100%, the whole program crashes. I get a message from Windows Vista stating that Calibre.exe has stopped working and must be closed. I had previously owned a Kindle and Sony ereader and Calibre would often freeze up or slow down, but it wouldn't just completely crash.

I think part of the problem is that I manually copied the files from my old Kindle to the new one just via Windows Explorer--maybe too much for Calibre to handle? However, it's not like my Kindle is even close to full.

I'm using Calibre 8.2.1 and Windows Vista. Any thoughts?
