I'll explain it to you so you hopefully get it:


Linux is an operating system, just as DOS, CP/M VMS or MS Windows are.

Debian and Ubuntu are not an OS, but are Distros (aka versions) of the Linux OS.

MS Windows Vista, and MS Windows 7 are versions of the
Microsoft Windows Operating system.


A monopoly is basically when a company controls an Item such as Electricity or
Telephone Service and there is no alternative so you are forced to buy from them only.
(This is what prompted the break up of the telephone company years ago)


Amazon IS NOT an monopoly because:

Other e-book readers are available (Sony, Nook, Etc)
Other e-book formats are available (mobi, epub,etc)

For Amazon to be a monopoly they would have to do something like patent the
e-book technology then not allow anyone else to produce readers or books.

Controlling a format (such as .azw) is not a monopoly, because another company
could just release e-books in another format and produce readers for it.
