Maybe it's the hardware after all? Look for example here, a SoC for ereaders:

And there's apparently a special driver for the Pearl screen. So it might not be simply a case of swaping screens, but having the hardware too?

Fact is, if the 9.7" Pocketbooks had a Pearl screen, I'd sure stop waiting for Onyx to get their act together.
