So are you claiming that Amazon has a monopoly on ebook Readers, or on eBooks themselves? There are multiple competitors on both sides so I don't have a clue how you think they are a monopoly.

It's very clear that they don't have a monopoly.
AFAIK they don't even have any arrangements with publishers where they are the sole distributors of certain books.
That means that you are perfectly entitled to:
a) Buy a Kindle device but purchase books for it elsewhere
b) Buy a different device and purchase books from it elsewhere
