Amazon is in the process of rolling out 5GB of free cloud storage for Kindle 'Personal Documents' (things sent to the @kindle.com address of one of your Kindles), and these will sync and save your bookmarks. What I find annoying about Nook STR (I have one) is that you cannot delete any of the side-loaded content. The lack of any wireless method of getting content on Nook is limiting as well. And of course there is no way to back up notes or sync with side-loaded content, even if it is from B&N.

Not only can you 'push' content to Kindle via its @kindle.com email address, but Kindle's web browser also lets you pull from things like Dropbox or Google Docs or download content from Gutenberg, Feedbooks, etc. So there are numerous options for expansion.
