Frustratingly, the email I got from them has vanished without a trace (I had intended to respond to the 'did we answer your question?' links and would not have deleted it, if I had deleted it, it would be in Trash. Nevertheless it is gone...).
I remember it also said that they had 'checked with the engineers' and confirmed that 3G was restricted to amazon.com and wikipedia.org. Thus it did give the impression they'd done due diligence in answering my query, and gotten to the truth of the matter. So I'm not very optimistic about this.
I agree that it is still possible that it will be the same 3G we've come to know and love, but I won't be ordering a Touch until we know for sure.
