My wife and I recently had a chance to taste dates and figs side-by-side. We were anxious to do so because we both had forgetten which is which and what they taste like. We both first tasted a date and enjoyed it. Then we both tasted a fig and.....duh!...we looked at each other and said "That tastes exactly like a Fig Newton!" Except there's a soft baked cookie kinduva thing around the figs in a Fig Newton. That's what one tastes like.
