Well, think about it: first, there are the newcomers, kids that just entered gadget age. Then there are upgraders; their PMP died or they need extra features, or they want to get into digital comics and magazines. And there are the sharers; couples or families with a PC that need to get online simultaneously but don't necessarily need two PCs. A lot of netbooks sold as second and third PCs into a household; well, a tablet can serve most of the surfing duty and offset its weaknesses vis-a-vis webpads with better content consumption features.
There is a market for the things.
It's not 250 million a year like PCs, but 5-10 million a year plus recuring content revenue is reason enough for Amazon to check in.
