You may be getting the names a little confused. Sony's BBEB book format used two different file extensions:

LRF for DRM-free files. These were never sold by Sony, but were available elsewhere.

LRX for DRM-protected books. These were only ever sold by Sony's eBook store.

If you bought LRX books from Sony's eBooks store, you should be able to re-download them in ePub format.

If you have books in LRF format you can convert them to ePub using "Calibre".
