If you're only using it as a reader, fine. But assuming we can side load whatever we want, 8GB just isn't a lot of space for content (Video + Music + Apps + Photos + Books).
Opinions vary on that. It seems Amazon's intention is for all that to go to the cloud. But, I was specifically replying to the assertion that, based on ebook sources, the Fire is more locked down than the Ipad. Other than not having B&N's nook app (for whatever reason) it really isn't. The Fire will read ePubs, PDFs, Kobo and Kindle ebooks, and that covers the vast majority of the market.
