I started with a Kindle, but now own two Kindles, a Sony 950 and a Boox M90, and I did own a nook.

I think you're best option is to keep the Kindle. Sure, you can strip the DRM, and convert, but why bother when you have a perfectly good working Kindle, which isn't going to be worth much 2nd hand. Nothing wrong with having two ereaders.
