So I got an email from amazon saying my check out that I let expire naturally just happened and it says on the Xoom Kindle App book listing:

and on my Manage your Kindle page at Amazon it gives me the choice to Delete or Purchase the book

I did not actually download to my Kindle 2 but should have, to test that.
