I think the point is that if the Amazon Fire does not allow apps for other ebook sources (Apple's iPad allows nook, kobo, and even kindle) then the Fire is much more walled in than the iPad.

That said, I imagine Amazon cannot reach the price point it has set without making it up in ebook sales. My guess is you won't see apps for nook, kobo or sony anytime soon.
