if it is not charging then assigning a new drive letter will not help.
fault is with one of PC ( ports), cable or device.
pc/ports/cable can all be tested if you have more than one of.
charging the device via a mains charger is another useful test.
ebay has cheap generic cables & chargers. you don't have to use Sony ones.
possibly the reader IS faulty so I'd be looking for my receipts & guarantee paperwork also.
