Might I suggest Balzac? Jules Verne? H. G. Wells?

There are so many styles (and contents) of 20th century fiction, it's hard to suggest without know more of your taste. For fantasy, I might recommend James Branch Cabell (AKA Branch Cabell). American Western fiction - Zane Grey. There H.P Lovecraft and Clark Ashton Smith for horror. You might look up Raymond Chandler for Hard Boiled Detective fiction.
