The best advice I can give is to NOT mess with system files unless you are absolutely sure of what you are doing - a wrong step can give you a rather expensive door stop.
Remember the PE is a tablet not a phone and ermine is beta software as well as being specially modified to integrate the e-ink reader.
I would suggest you use it as it is for a time and explore what it will do without hacking it. Most people just upgrade to 2.2 and use it as it then is. Apps can mostly be found in places other than the market which is good because usually the latest and greatest don't work on our version of 2.2.
