You first need to localize the problem by isolating the possible causes, working from simplest to hardest. You have a couple of things to work with: the KT itself, the cable, the firmware, the desktop PC. If you have tried another cable then it is likely not that. Next, try to install the Kobo Desktop software on another PC and try to connect to that. If that fails then you're left with a few KT options such as the factory reset pinhole or turning the unit on while holding the Home button down. If all of the above fail to correct the problem, you may have a bad unit, and only Kobo support can address that.
