I just stumbled across something that may explain, at least in part, what is included in the latest 3.3 update that some are receiving:
Press Release: AmazonLocal Coming to Kindle with Special Offers. In this announcement, dated 15 Sept 2011, Amazon states:
The functionality for receiving AmazonLocal deals on Kindle with Special Offers will be delivered as part of a software update for latest generation Kindles in the coming weeks.
I'm not sure why some people with
non-ad Kindles have received version 3.3 because only KSO models are mentioned in the rest of this press release. Perhaps they'll be giving all K3 owners the choice to opt-in sometime in the future? AmazonLocal is launching in New York City and will be expanding to more cities later this year.
