Unless you need the reader software you can go into preferences and stop it opening up when you connect the Sony to the PC, that way just use Calibre for now, at least until the Sony Store opens in the UK.
Any book you buy from anywhere can be loaded into Calibre, just use the 'Send to Device icon, which pops up when the Sony is conected to your PC and Calibre is open, to send the books to your Sony.
One thing I love about the Sony readers and Calibre is that the tags in Calibre automatically become collections on the Sony.
