Although written in the late 19th century (1898) this novel actually foreshadows many of his WW1-era intrigue novels.

Fairly standard set up of his, 3 friends spot a mysterious man and a beautiful young woman while dining in a fancy restaurant, and they try to get to know her, but complications ensue, because as always in these sort of novels, she has a secret.
