Umm if an author chooses to use a certain publisher then they have to follow said publishers rules. Authors can choose not to sign with Amazon if they are unhappy with Amazon's rules.
B&N is doing exactly what it feels it needs to do in order to stay competitive. "Give us all or nothing". That puts the ball in Amazon's court as to whether or not they want to compromise w/ B&N's rules.
Plus, there's nothing (except cash) stopping B&N from doing the exact same thing. In a way, they already have..they have their own line of public domain books. Sure you can get other copies from other places, but they will not have the B&N touch.
In the end, everyone still has a
choice.
