I'll probably go ahead and keep it, though. I love mine and this one would be for my sister who doesn't have any kind of e-reader, but loves reading more than eating or sleeping. I can get a lot of books transferred even onto the puny internal storage...the external card will be filled up with audiobooks and ... more books.

Dian, your computer will not see the hidden 5 GB on the new Nook. It is there however. That is used by the Nook for all of the books you get from B&N, plus the space for the OS. The 1 GB you see is for your sideloaded content. There is the same amount of space on the new and old Nook. It is just that B&N decided it would hold the 5 GB in reserve. With your 32 GB card, you won't have to worry about space anyway.
