I've used the custom column Read Status for my K3 for quite a while.
I had a short chance to connect my K3 and check the Collections plugin.
It SHOULD be possible to configure the Collections Plugin to use the Read Status column to create a collection. Just for one run..
Your buddy would probably like the custom column just to show Read (instead of read date ). So you should look at:

A bit confusing maybe, since you have to follow 2 sets of instructions.
Testing ? Well, I can't handle that at the moment; don't have time/energy to restore/rebuild my own K3

Hope this makes sense, and is helpfull.
