Mark it "Read": Can I do this?

Wanted to check if the following behavior is already available, and if not, the best way to go about developing or automating it (e.g. plug-in, etc.)

1. When reader is connected, save locally a list of books the device.
2. When reader is next connected, IF any book has been removed/deleted from the device, mark it "read" in a boolean column within calibre (the main library, obviously.).

This would save me the trouble of keeping track what I've deleted from the device until the next time I am in front of the PC with my Calibre library.
