It's the things they don't tell you - like the kidney may (and has) go to 'sleep' and could take weeks (nay even months) to decide to waken...bit like teenagers I suppose !
other bits such as the pain from surgery you can imagine, but naivety I suspect conditions one to believe in the miracle that all will be well from day one, especially as the kidney was functioning on the op table. Now we can't plan for her leaving hospital, and perhaps bringing her home.
Irony is, to some extent, she'd just paid out for a trip to LA the day before !!!!
Though as she said herself "at least I'll know what to expect next time !"
