A GPS is aided by the cellphone connection adding some general data about the satellite locations to speed up the fix but it still needs to see satellites to obtain a fix. I suggest you locate your unit near a window to improve the reception of satellite signals. Your house is likely shielding the signals. Some units can also use wifi and even celltower triangulation but these are not GPS. I do not know if you unit supports these additional methods.
